Learning Objectives and Clinical Implications

  1. Understand the epidemiology, risk factors, and pathophysiology of memory disorders in the elderly, emphasizing the importance of early recognition and timely intervention.
  2. Differentiate normal age-related cognitive decline from mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and common dementias to facilitate accurate diagnosis and appropriate clinical management.
  3. Develop a systematic approach to evaluating elderly patients with memory complaints using comprehensive history taking, cognitive assessment tools, functional evaluation, and appropriate investigations.

  8. Understand recent advances in biomarkers, neuroimaging, precision medicine, and emerging therapies that are shaping the future of diagnosis and management of memory disorders in older adults.
